As Philadelphia's public schools loose funding they cut arts education. This project was a way to bring arts based learning back into the school but to use the art made to raise money for an art materials fund that now exists at the school. This project was made possible by a grant from Public Citizens for Children and Youth awarded to All Heart Art Cart. Each student made a symbol representing something that made them proud or happy from their school or community. Their drawings were turned into stamps with which they printed promotional and arts advocacy materials as well as fabric for two pencils cases. After all their hard work of printing, sewing and snapping they finished a pencil case with their symbol on it. The second case made by each student was sold locally on Art Cart with 100% of proceeds being donated to the schools future art materials fund. This was an empowering experience for the students, the school, the local community and myself. Please check out allheartartcart.com for more.
